San Vittore Nuova Eccellenza!

San Vittore: New Excellence!

“San Vittore wants to become a reference of excellence, capable of transforming imprisonment into an opportunity for growth”, says Giacinto Siciliano, director of the Francesco di Cataldo – San Vittore Prison, who together at the Milan Triennale launched the ‘San Vittore, space for beauty’ competition.

Architects, designers, planners have been called to collect ideas to redesign the prison. A way to transform the perception of this place and improve its functionality through the spaces.

It is a project that aims to stimulate the prison to “rediscover its centrality in the city contexts”.

An objective that can be achieved thanks to the areas of interest defined in the call: ‘Integration with the city’, divided into ‘Green area / Garden’ and ‘Meeting and interview area’; ‘Community and living spaces’, dedicated to ‘Male cells and sections’ and ‘Female cells and sections’; Finally, ‘Recreation and Wellness’, divided into ‘Walking courtyards’ and ‘Personal green area, bar/canteen’.

The competition is part of the collaboration between the two institutions and as underlined by Stefano Boeri “The dialogue between the Triennale and the Francesco di Cataldo – San Vittore prison is increasingly intense and fruitful. Our two realities are located a few hundred meters from each other, but the distance between them is enormous “.
